Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home for Alice Ortego, 92, who passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Deacon Ken Soignier will officiate the services. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation hours will be observed on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. A rosary will be prayed on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.
Alice is survived by one daughter, Audrey Vannoy of Angola, LA; two sons, Jimmie Ortego (Marguerite) of Lafayette, and Billy Ray Ortego (Ann) of Opelousas; one sister, Margaret Fontenot of Crowley; seven grandchildren, Chris Ortego (Nicole), Kelly Ortego (Craig), Mikel Vannoy (Cindy), Rhonda McKey, Misty Jo Dupre, Krystal Duplantis (Travis), and Foster Goutro (Angela); 15 great-grandchildren, Braxton Ortego (Julie), Makenzie Porche (Seth), Dalton Ortego, Cooper Ortego, Caden Ortego, Jacob Vannoy, Bennett Vannoy (Lindsey), Thomas Vannoy, Madyson McKey, Mason McKey, Cooper Dupre, Olivia Dupre, Hunter Goutro, Remington Goutro, and Levi Goutro; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jensen McKey and Lucy Kate Vannoy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Percy Ortego; her parents, Luwena and Claude Estilette; two sons, Percy “Wayne” Ortego, Jr., and Kenneth Joseph Ortego; two grandchildren, Kristi Ortego and Jason Ortego; one sister; and four brothers.
Alice retired as a Nurse’s Aid from Opelousas General Hospital after 21 years. She was a parishioner at St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her Pokeno group. Alice was a great cook and an avid baker, making numerous wedding cakes over the years. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Pallbearers are Mason McKey, Chris Ortego, Craig Ortego, Bennett Vannoy, Jacob Vannoy, and Mikel Vannoy.
