Alice Hurren Saunders
December 7, 1953 - August 8, 2025
Alice Hurren Saunders peacefully passed into the next life at home in Smithfield on Friday, August 8, 2025 at the age of 72. She was surrounded by great friends, wonderful ward members, her cherished siblings and extended family, and her dearly loved husband, children and grandchildren in the days preceding her death.
Alice was born on December 7, 1953 to Wendell and Martha Hurren. She grew up on a farm where she was taught the importance of family. She had one brother and five sisters. Hard work and music was ever-present in their home. Her love for her parents and siblings was so strong, evident in the happiness she felt talking and being with them. She cherishes the time she spent with her siblings and her nieces and nephews.
She met the love of her life, Kurtis Merlin Saunders out of high school while working for Logan Regional Hospital. He made her feel adventurous and loved. They were married June 29, 1973. They were later sealed in the Ogden Temple for time and all eternity. They had four sons and one daughter. They taught their kids hard work, how to enjoy life and family, and the importance of finding humor in each day.
Alice could light up a room with her loving kindness, her laughter, and her sweet, sweet smile. She was loved by everyone and everyone was drawn to her because she had a way of making you feel so important and so cherished! She loved to joke with her family and there was always laughter in her home, even during rough times.
She was an example of courage and patience while battling with a failing liver, combined with other complications that ultimately claimed her life. Her selfless service to many, inspired others to be charitable and thoughtful as our loving Savior was. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She has had an opportunity to serve many in her various church callings. She has inspired all who knew her to be more like Christ with her giving nature and her gift for compassion.
She loved calling and talking to family and friends. She would get so excited to hear about everyone’s family and all the wonderful things happening in their lives, and she worried and prayed for them in difficult times. You could often hear her laughing with someone on the phone: What a wonderful sound to come home to. She always had time to truly listen to her children, and everyone for that matter.
Alice has always been so proud of her family and heritage and we know that she is excited to reunite with her beloved parents, grandchildren, in-laws and other dear ones that have passed on before her.
Alice is survived by her loving husband Kurtis Saunders, kids and spouses (Kris, Jeff(Alisha), Jeremy(Cindy), Wendy Stakebake(Jared), and Chad(Sarah). Grandkids Jessica, Jennifer, Kaylie, Kyler, Dallin, Allee, Aidan, Jaxon, Emerson, Brinley, Sadie, Malese, Macey, Jacob, Rowan, and Hudson and 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Margo (Larry) Ahnder, Jay (Kenna) Hurren, Annette (Larry) Boyle Winn , Glee (Larry) Petersen, Venna Barret, Joyce (Dale) Jones. Her in-laws Sharon(Rodney) Larsen, Cheryl Saunders, and Paul (Lorraine) Saunders and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Wendell and Martha Hurren, Braxton Saunders(grandson), Haylie Saunders(granddaughter), Merlin and Venna Saunders(father in-law and mother in-law), and four brother and sister-in-laws.
The viewing will be held Thursday on August 14, 2025 from 6-8 and August 15, 2025 from 10:00-11:30 in Amalga, Utah (6521 N. 2400 W. Amalga, Ut. 84335). Following that will be a graveside service at the Smithfield Cemetery (300 E. Center Smithfield, Ut.).
