Alice Swezey

Alice Swezey, 84, of Dorchester, passed away peacefully in home hospice, surrounded by family, on Monday, August 4th.

Alice was born and raised in Manhasset, Long Island NY, where she ultimately began her career as a physical education and health teacher for middle school students. She excelled as the coach of the high school varsity field hockey team. Tennis and swimming were also activities Alice loved and exceled at.

While teaching physical education in New York, Alice met her future husband, C.E. Swezey III, also a teacher at the same school, and from Huntington NY. Soon after, they married and relocated to Medfield to raise a family and continue their teaching careers.

Alice resided in Medfield between 1972 and 2002, and enjoyed the lifelong friends and families she made, and touched, over the years. She loved to meet her many local friends for coffee or lunch regularly, and was always socially active. She also saved many cats, which she loved dearly, throughout her life.

Trips to the beaches of Cape Cod or Florida were two of Alice's favorite activities with her family. Every summer, she set up the annual two-week trip to Falmouth, and the memories which will never be forgotten. Alice and Gene had many friends on Cape Cod who joined the fun too.

Alice is survived by her son, Christopher Swezey of Hopkinton MA, and his three children, Megan, Bridget, and James Swezey. Alice is also survived by her daughter, Allison Idris (Swezey), and her husband Ahmed Idris, of Dorchester, MA, along with Olivia Idris.

Alice is pre-deceased by her loving husband, C.E. Swezey III, her brother Father Harold J. Heindel Jr., and her parents Harold J. Heindel Sr. and his loving wife, Alyce M. Heindel (Poyntz). Alice loved spending time with friends and family, striking up a conversation with anyone who seemed friendly.

A private family memorial service will follow in remembrance of Alice's life. She will be interred at the Vine Lake Cemetery, next to her beloved husband, Gene.
