Obituary of Alice Waddles
Alice Waddles was born on April 7, 1940 at 8 o'clock in the morning to Calvin Waddles and Tempie Katherine Hall Waddles. She was born before the mid-wife got there because a flood came and washed the telephone line out. Her father had to walk to the head of Dry Creek to get help.
She passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
She attended Dark Hollow School for 8 years and graduated from Wayland High School in 1959. She married Clive Gordon Hall on October 10, 1959. Two years later she gave birth to a daughter, who survives, Deidra Sue on October 31, 1961.
She went back to school at Alice Lloyd College fall of 1965 earning an Associates Degree December 1967. In May, she enrolled at Pikeville College and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Social Science in July 1969. That fall, she taught Third grade in
Strongsville, OH. In 1970 she worked for the State as a Social Worker until 1974. During this time she enrolled at the University of Louisville earning a degree in Economic Development and a minor in Social Science. She began working as a teacher for the Knott County Board of Education in 1976 and continued until retirement in 1998.
There were never enough hours in the day for her to do all the things she wanted to do. She always had a number of projects started such as crafts, playing musical instruments, writing genealogy books or working as a professional florist. She earned certification as a florist over a 2 year period.
She wrote 45 plus genealogy books and started her own Tapestry Publishing Co. She volunteered at Our Lady of the Way Hospital for a couple of years. She found this a very rewarding experience.
Her parents instilled in her to always include the Lord in her daily walk. Earliest memories were of being tucked in at night by both parents and saying a goodnight prayer. Going to church with Grandma Mary Waddles. Calvin took all the children on Caudill Branch to Patton Missionary Baptist Church. Alice joined the Old Regular Baptist Church in October 1969. Later, she took fellowship with J.S. Bell Missionary Baptist Church.
Additionally, she is a member of the Bevinsville First Baptist Church, the KY retired teachers, Knott Co. retired teachers and the daughters of the American Revolution.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer and given 2 months to live in 1987. God healed her and it struck her again in 1993. She was given no hope again. Both were the fast kind. The second time, it fed on the lymph nodes; but, God came through again healing her and she has been cancer free since 1993.
