Alice Woolston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kane Funeral Home - Sheridan on Dec. 15, 2025.
Alice June (Cunningham) Woolston was taken home to rejoice in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 12, 2025.

Alice was born on June 29, 1930, in Broadus, MT, the youngest child of Joseph and Isabel Cunningham. Alice lovingly told stories of her precious childhood on a homestead near Pinele, Montana. Even though the homestead ranch was remote and very isolated with harsh winters, she cherished her ranch-life upbringing; the one-room schoolhouse, her mother's amazing gardens and flower beds, her father's hard work, the home cooked meals and clean living away from people, towns and cities. Alice attended rural schools in Carter County and graduated from Custer County High School in 1949. Alice met the love of her life in grade school. When Alice was in 1st grade and Stacy Woolston was in 3rd grade at the rural Dry Creek School, Stacy made her an engagement ring out of a gold foil wrapper from a cigar and promised to marry her after he turned 21 years old. Stacy and Alice were married on June 3, 1951. The couple spent their first months of married life in a sheep wagon, living in the breaks on Tom Woolston's homestead, until they purchased their own ranch in southeast Montana. To this union, Stacy and Alice had two sons; Lyle and Evan Woolston, who are three years apart in age but were born on the same day.

Tragically, Stacy passed away on December 13, 1964, after trying to rescue livestock during a harsh winter storm, leaving a young wife with their two young sons. Alice never remarried and remained a widow for 61 years. She was widowed at the age of 33 and passed at the age of 95. Alice raised her two sons in Ekalaka, Montana. Although they lived humbly, she became a strong and independent lady who was known for her kindness, compassion and deep faith in her Lord and Savior. Alice was a fierce prayer warrior who continually lifted her family up in prayer each day. She was a very loving and nurturing mother, not only to her sons, but to any child she met. Alice cherished times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren who she doted-on and adored.

Alice is survived by her son Evan (Cindy) Woolston of Buffalo, WY, her daughter-in-law Julie (Jake) Hieb of Ekalaka, MT. Grandchildren: Jason (Mandy) Woolston of Spearfish, SD, Kayla (Danny) Hart of Buffalo, WY, Amanda (Adam) Wooten of Billings, MT, Clark Woolston of Sheridan, WY and great-grandchildren: Kylee, Madison, Brooklyn, Ethan, Bryson, Claire, Micah, Amelia, and Lylie.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Stacy Woolston and her son Lyle Woolston, her parents Joe and Isabel Cunningham, and her siblings Pat Cunningham and Grace (Cunningham) Nesbit.

Alice's family is very grateful to the staff at Amie Holt Care Center in, Buffalo, WY for their loving care.

Alice will be laid to rest next to her husband Stacy Woolston at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, SD. At Alice's request, a private family gathering will be held.
