Alicia Vargas, 90, a beacon of love and warmth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at her residence in Kingsville, TX. Born on August 20, 1933, in Mission, TX, to the late Pedro and Dolores Garcia, Alicia lived a life full of grace and generosity.
Alicia was the heart and soul of her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Transito Vargas, and a nurturing mother to her seven children: Irene V. (Desi) Garza, Arnulfo (Maria) Vargas, David (Rubecela) Vargas, Norma V. (Rogelio) Garcia, Jorge (Sylvia) Vargas, Arturo Vargas, and Martin Vargas. Her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply.
Alicia's passions were many and varied. She was a masterful seamstress, known especially for her exquisite quilts and pillows, each stitch woven with love. Her garden was a sanctuary, filled with the vibrant blooms and healing herbs she tended with expert care and an abiding belief in their natural remedies. In the kitchen, Alicia's tamales were legendary, a favorite dish that brought her family together around the table. Her simple pleasures included the refreshing taste of a cold Dr. Pepper and the sweet delight of a Baby Ruth candy bar. Dining out at Whataburger was one of her cherished treats.
Alicia's loving spirit and the warmth she shared will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Flores Funeral Home in Mission, TX. A chapel service will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Flores Funeral Home in Mission, TX. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the compassionate care of Flores Funeral Home of Mission.
Alicia's family and friends will forever carry her memory in their hearts, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knew no bounds.
