Maria Alicia Ysquierdo was born on August 9, 1935, in Edinburg, Texas, to Apolonio and Carmen Cienfuegos. She was the third of ten siblings and grew up in the Rio Grande Valley, where faith, family, and hard work shaped her life. In 1954, she met the love of her life, Brijido Ysquierdo, and they were later married in Casa Grande, Arizona.
In 1963, their lives were forever changed when they gave their hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ. What began with a simple invitation to church became a lifelong journey of faith. Brijido felt God's call to preach the gospel and began attending Bible school five days a week for three years, while Alicia cared for their children at home. Though times were often difficult, Alicia shielded her children from hardship, ensuring they always had what they needed for school and life.
Together, they served faithfully as evangelists throughout Texas, Arizona, California, and Mexico. When they were not traveling for ministry, Alicia and Brijido worked as migrant laborers, journeying from the Rio Grande Valley to California and Wisconsin to provide for their family. Alicia stood faithfully beside her husband, especially during their time serving as pastors at Templo Elisama in San Juan, Texas.
As an evangelist and pastor's wife, Alicia poured love and service into her family, church, and community. Her love language was service; she was always willing to help others. Even when she had little, she gave much. She often made tacos for people crossing the border, sharing what she had so that others could have a better life.
Above all, Alicia was a devoted mother and grandmother. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and praying for her loved ones daily. Prayer was her greatest gift, she carried her family before the Lord faithfully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, and unconditional love.
Alicia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Brijido Ysquierdo; her sons, Brijido Ysquierdo Jr. and Adan Ysquierdo; her granddaughters Samantha Ysquierdo, Abelina Ysquierdo, and Cynthia Ysquierdo; her parents; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children: Carmen Ysquierdo, Rosalinda Elias (Joe), Raul Ysquierdo (Rachelle), Samuel Ysquierdo (Mayra), and Israel Ysquierdo (Gricelda); along with 40 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy.
Her family and friends will forever remember Alicia for her servant's heart, her strength, her kindness, and the deep love she gave so freely.
