Allan Benson Obituary
Allan Benson, aged 74, of Algonquin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024. Born on May 27, 1949, in Chicago, he was the cherished only child of Melvin and Fern Benson.
A dedicated and proud Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army, Allan was a true patriot, known for his deep love for his country and his strong work ethic. In April 1998, he married Debbie Barile in Rolling Meadows, and together they shared a passion for travel, with Virginia Beach holding a special place in their hearts. Al's love for camping and animals was profound, especially for his beloved black lab, Winnie, who deeply misses him.
Al's charismatic nature made him a memorable figure. Known for his storytelling prowess, he was often the life of the party, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His ability to connect with everyone and his inherent kindness made him a beloved figure in his community.
Al leaves behind his loving wife, Debbie; his son, Allan Benson of Galveston, TX; stepsons, Paul (Joy) Mellen and their daughters, Mira and Aun of Thailand, and Chris Mellen of San Antonio, TX, along with Chris's sons, Christopher Lee Mellen, Jr. and Isaac David Rinn of Trophy Club, TX.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, from 3pm until military honors at 7pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
