Olga Gerhardstein Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home on Feb. 20, 2026.
Olga Rose Gerhardstein (nee Kinsburg), age 99, a resident of Aurora IL since 2004, formerly longtime Naperville resident, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in Barrington, IL. She was born on June 7, 1926, in Cincinnati, OH.

Beloved wife of the late E. Michael Gerhardstein, whom she married June 7, 1947, on her 21st birthday, devoted daughter of the late Max and Helen Kinsburg (nee Simmermacher) and dear sister of the late Vera Louise Thorn (nee Kinsburg). Loving mother to the late Barbara L., Michael C. (Kathleen), Patricia M. (Bruce) DeVore, Kathleen M., Thomas J. (Deborah), Susan M. (Joseph) Maude, James S. and Mary E. (Andrew) Bazan. Cherished grandmother of Michael (Megan), Andrew (Meaghan), Rachel (Alan) Barnwell, Joseph (Lynn Do), Justin (Denise), Max Maude (Elyse Daly), Lee Maude, Jennifer Rott, Joelle (Henry) Graham, Thomas (Alysha) Bazan and Brian (Amy) Bazan and loving great-grandmother of twenty.

Olga grew up in a loving home with her parents, Max who was smuggled out of Imperial Russia in 1911, and Helen, who left Germany on her own at the age of 16. Max and Helen valued education and inspired their daughters to love reading, the arts and current event discussions. Olga especially enjoyed her classical ballet lessons and she carried the discipline and grace of ballet throughout her life. Olga attended the University of Cincinnati where she was the secretary of Chi Omega Sorority.

Olga worked alongside her husband as a co-founder and co-owner of their packaging company, Fromm Airpad. She was a longtime member of SS. Peter & Paul Church in Naperville from 1964 to 2004 and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church since 2004. Olga was devoted to the cause of mental health and co-founded NAMI DuPage along with her husband. She was an avid reader and a member of the SS. Peter & Paul book club for 50 years. Olga passed this love of reading on to her children and grandchildren. There was never a time when Olga wasn't interested in researching and learning. To her last days, she said that she was always learning new things.

In lieu of flowers for those who wish to leave a lasting tribute in Olga's name donations may be made to NAMI DuPage 115 N County Farm Rd, Wheaton, IL 60187. https://namidupage.org/difference-you-make/
