Carole Lee Freudenberg Shafor Phillips was born on November 24, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa, to Mary Lena and Carl Gustave Freudenberg. As part of a military family, she eventually settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she graduated from Woodward High School in 1957.
Carole went on to earn a degree in Fashion Design from the University of Cincinnati and was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Carole was the loving mother of three children from her first marriage and later welcomed two more children through her second marriage. She and her devoted husband, Russ, also lovingly raised two grandchildren.
Carole had a lifelong passion for painting, continuing to take classes even in her later years. There were always both finished and unfinished paintings throughout her home—a reflection of her creative spirit. She also loved to sing and participated in choirs and many local community theater productions.
She found great joy in gardening, especially tending to her flowers, and she had a special love for animals—particularly cats. Carole had a remarkable gift for seeing the good in everyone. She never met a stranger, always wore a warm smile, and made everyone around her feel welcomed and valued.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Russ; two of her three children, Pamela and Charles “Chuck” (Tessa); her stepdaughter, Laura Bango (Jon); 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Douglas, and her stepson, Rusty.
Services will be held at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 6546 Mason-Montgomery Rd. Mason (45040) on Friday, February 27, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., and a luncheon to follow.
