Mary Clare Gerhardstein, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024 at the Barrington of
Ft. Thomas, KY.
A lifelong resident of Northern Kentucky, faith and family were central to Mary's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She was also an avid cook, gardener, quilter, bridge player, scrapbooker and family genealogist. Upon meeting someone, she could usually establish a family connection, no matter how distant. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always up for a game of rummy or hand and foot.
Mary met her husband Charles on a blind date. They had a loving marriage of 71 years together and raised six children. They enjoyed entertaining, traveling and spending time with their family, and volunteering at their church.
She was a registered nurse for more than 30 years and retired from the former St. Luke Hospital in
Ft. Thomas, Ky. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Cold Spring where she sang in the resurrection choir. She created the Welcome Committee at Chardonnay condominium community. Mary belonged to the Campbell County Historical Society for whom she wrote an article about growing up in Newport during World War II. She also wrote a story for her great grandchildren about visiting her grandmother's farm on Licking Pike when she was a child.
Mary was born November 30, 1927 in Dayton, KY to Anthony Schuh and Marie (nee: Hoefker) Schuh. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Alois Gerhardstein, daughter Paula, son Tony, brother Paul Schuh, and sister Martha Futscher.
Mary is survived by her daughters Martha (Larry) Romans and Beth (Ron) Skulas, sons Joe (Clay) Gerhardstein and Carl (Lisa) Gerhardstein, daughter in law Sandy Gerhardstein, and sister Lucille (Howard) Bezold. Grandchildren include Adam, Paul, Katherine, Emily, Julie, Greg, Laura, Chris, David, Thomas, Phillip, Daniel & Lauren, and great grandchildren are Scarlette, Mariam, Alyiah, Callie, Lucas, Ellie, Theo, Will, Charlie, Elsie, Declan, Lorelei & Liviana.
Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 a.m., Monday, October 21st at St. Joseph Parish, Cold Spring, KY. Mary will be laid to rest at St. Stephen Cemetery,
