Michael Kleier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dobbling Funeral Home - Fort Thomas on Feb. 23, 2026.
Michael C. Kleier, age 77, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Michael was born in Covington, KY on November 1, 1948 (All Saints Day), the second of seven children of Melvin C and Vera (Zerhusen) Kleier. He was raised in Ft. Thomas, KY attending St. Thomas School then Thomas More College where he met his wife, of 52 years, Beverly Kleier (nee Flora).

Michael welcomed four daughters with joy and demonstrated this in all interactions with them. His children, Emily Shewmaker (Bob), Suzanne Kress (Andy), Sarah Goetz (Jerry), and Carolyn Kleier (Nate) will cherish memories of him and his interest in cars (especially muscle cars, mainly Chevelles, Corvettes, and anything GM), his attendance at family sporting events, or his enveloping hugs. Above all, his daughters will treasure witnessing his unwavering love and devotion for their mother.

Michael had a deep appreciation for life, faith, and especially music. Michael loved to sing, particularly sacred music in church. Since the age of 8, he sang in several choirs: St. Thomas/Ft. Thomas; St. Joseph/Cold Spring; Northern Kentucky Community Chorus; and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Chorus. He enjoyed being part of the tenors, but also singing solo for weddings, funerals, and church celebrations.

Also left to cherish his memory are nine grandchildren (Brooke, Aiden, Rachel, Ava, Abby, Lindsey, Brandon, Natalie, and Ryan). Michael was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Vera Kleier, his siblings Mary Ann Cope and Melanie Mullen, his brother-in-law JM Mullen, and his parents-in-law Donald and Florine Flora. He is survived by his siblings Martha Jane Graves, Myra LaFleur, Mark Kleier, and Molly Gibson.

Michael attended Thomas More College obtaining a B.A. in Accounting in 1971. In September 1971, Michael enlisted in the U.S Army Active Reserves. He received an Honorable Discharge in October 1977 with the rank of E-5 Sgt. In July 1972, he began his 36-year career with several banking agencies under the U.S. Treasury (Federal Home Loan Bank Board, Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, The Office of Thrift Supervision, and as a Contractor Examiner) regulating federally chartered savings and loans, saving banks, and bank holding companies.

A devout Catholic, Michael was actively involved in his parish community. His faith was an integral part of his life and was reflected in the way he served others with kindness, humility, and generosity. Michael loved God and the Saints. He took comfort in prayer and in having St. Michael the Archangel as his patron saint. He emphasized looking beyond oneself in service to others. All of God's creatures have worth, treat them as such.

Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 26th at 11am at St Joseph, Cold Spring.
