Allan E. Bruno April 14, 1922- September 19, 2024
Al was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada the 7th of 8 children. He volunteered for the Canadian Army in 1940, became a paratrooper attached to the 101st Airborne Division and participated in the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during WWIl. After leaving the service in 1944 he married Alice Beatrice Lalonde whom he met while stationed in Cornwall, Canada.
Al moved his growing family, which now included three girls, to California in 1961. They all became U.S. Citizens in 1965. Al spent most of his life in Lakewood, California and in addition to being an avid gardener he was an active member of the Canadian Royal Legion, American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose where he also served as its Governor.
Al was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1999 and daughter Shirley Tooker in 2005. He is survived by daughters Carol Pentecost and Leslie Lockwood, son in laws Scott Lockwood and James Tooker, Granddaughters Heather McGinn and Tricia Althen, Great Grandchildren Talley A. McGinn and William Allan McGinn as well as many beloved nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S.
Al will be interred in the Canadian Memorial area at Park Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
