The Rest of the Story
Allen, Dad, Granddad, Uncle Allen however we all knew him, we loved him and everyone seemed to enjoy being around him. What is it about him that made everyone feel welcomed and appreciated? His smile, his laugh, his attentive listening?
His #1 rule was Have Fun! He found joy in the simple things in life like savoring a good cup of coffee. Although, now that I think about it, he seemed to enjoy just an average cup of coffee. Perhaps it was really just about the moments that came with sitting around with a cup of coffee in hand?
Throughout his life he was a part of, and even contributed to, some special events. In football he helped lead the Hanceville High School Bulldogs to an undefeated season. He was a part of a dynasty of Ole' Miss football teams culminating in a National Championship in 1960. He made history in the NFL by kicking the winning field goal for the first regular season game that the Dallas Cowboys ever won in 1961. His career after football included contract work with NASA helping to build America's first space station (Skylab), opening a Golf Driving Range, investing in Mr. Steak restaurants, and working for "Bobcat" helping the company to re-design and market its tractors to dominant the market and become the name associated with any skid-steer loader.
In private, he was a family man to his very core. Before he was married, Uncle Allen loved seeing his nieces and nephews and visiting with his sisters and parents. After he was married, all of his vacation time was spent taking his family to visit his extended family. Once he retired, all of his vacations were to see his grandkids and kids. There was always coffee.
He never bragged about his past experiences or accomplishments he didn't even really bring them up. However, if asked, you could feel joy and genuine emotion from him as he recounted special moments, times, and people in his life.
We all know or have some stories from his life, yet find ourselves wanting to know more. I hope that we get to share some together when many of us meet in Garden City to put him to rest and celebrate his life. If you have a moment between now and then, we invite you to pour a cup of coffee and share your story about him on his Tribute Wall. We look forward to joyous and fun moments ahead with our own cup of coffee, virtually shared with everyone, as we read "the rest of the stories" and learn more about Allen, Dad, Granddad, Uncle Allen and the impact that he has had on everyone throughout his life.
Best Wishes!

Leanna and family,
We are saddened to hear of Al´s death. It´s been many years since I last saw Al, but have thought about him many times. He was the best territory manager from Bobcat we ever had, honest, kind and always had a smile. God´s Blessings to you and your family. RIP Al

Good times in Fargo, ND. Allen traveled a lot when he worked for Bobcat, and he always seemed happiest when he could spend time with his family. Here he is c. 1977 with Liz and Cooper (great pants, Cooper!).

Allen was my childhood playmate. Everything from birthday parties, cowboys and Indians, Sunday school, Boy Scout camps, and college recruiting trips to sharing an apartment in Dallas, TX after college graduation. To Leanna, Cooper., Elizabeth, and Kimberley, you had a great husband and dad. May time grant you peace and blessings. Robbie and I send our love. Rest in peace, Allen Green.
