Baum Carlock Bumgardner Funeral HomeAllen Buckingham Johnson passed away January 27, 2026. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 16,1944 to Estelle Buckingham Johnson and Ernest Cossett Johnson. After graduating from R.L. Paschal High School in Ft. Worth, Texas (1963), Allen joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Viet Nam war, participating in OPERATION JACKSTAY (1966) in the mangrove swamps of the Mekong Delta as a member of Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines (D/1/5).
After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Allen spent several years as a Ranger in both the Regional and State Park systems, serving at Shadow Cliffs Regional Park in Pleasanton, California, and subsequently at Hueco Tanks State Park in El Paso, Texas.
Allen was a lifetime Scouter and lover of the outdoors and adventure. He was a member of the Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America, starting at the age of 13 and continuing into his 70’s. He held his dream job as camp ranger at the famed Worth Ranch Boy Scout Camp in Palo Pinto County, Texas, from 1977 to 2001. Allen was also the scoutmaster of local Palo Pinto, Texas, Troop 90 for 30+ years, ending with three Eagle Scouts of whom he was very proud. In 2007, Allen was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service in scouting.
Allen was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mineral Wells, Texas where he served on the Board of Trustees for many years and helped keep up the maintenance of the church.
Allen is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sons, Tam Johnson (Malin) of Lidingo, Sweden; Terry Johnson (Sallie) of Coronado, California; step children Gordon McCullough (Rhonda) of Weatherford, Texas; Bryan McCullough (Cara) of Mansfield, Texas and Tracy McCullough Hobson (Brian) of Garner, Texas; four grandsons, five granddaughters, one great-grandson and one great granddaughter; and sister, Ann Lamb (James) of Knoxville, Tennessee, niece Karin and nephew Andy.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ ceremony will be held for Allen 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, 14 March 2026, at Worth Ranch Scout Camp, Palo Pinto, Texas, in the Duncan Dining Hall.
