Allen E. Makela, age 86 of Brooklyn, OH, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025. Beloved husband of Gwen (nee Ledger) for 66 years; loving father of Walter (Janet), Margaret Moore (Arthur), Thomas (Mary), and Diane Makela; devoted grandfather of Melissa Dress (Josh), Charles Moore (Christy), Elizabeth Watt (Eddie Vata), Amanda Garcia, Lisa Biddle (Dan), Herbie Watt, Matthew Makela (Ashlynn), Michael Makela (Amanda), and Jaime Ferguson (Brandon); great-grandfather of 21 and great-great-grandfather of two; uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Makela (nee Kinnear), his sister, Nancy Waller (Bob, deceased), his daughter, Connie Watt (Herb, deceased), and his grandchildren, Adam Makela and Taylor Makela.
Allen was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving on a submarine at the start of the Vietnam War. He retired as an electrician for IBEW Local 38 after 46 years. Among his many projects, Allen helped build Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida as well as the Gathering Center at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. He was an avid camper, enjoying adventures with his wife and family in Florida and other destinations for many years.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org.
Funeral service at 11am on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 Ridge Rd., Parma, OH 44129. Family will receive friends from 6-9pm on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the funeral home.
