Carey Neal Jr. ( April 1, 1947- July 23, 2025)
Carey Neal Jr., a devoted family man and respected professional, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025. He was 78.
Born on April 1, 1947, in Chicago to Carey Neal Sr. and Anne Neal, Carey grew up with a strong work ethic. A graduate of Harlan High School, his early talent was evident on the cross - country track, where he excelled enough to earn a college scholarship. Answering a desire to see the world, Carey chose instead to answer the call of duty, serving honorably in the United States Navy. He enlisted in 1966, serving on the USS Waldron and was stationed at Subic Bay, in the Philippines. He was discharged with honor in 1970.
Following his naval service, Carey pursued higher education, earning his Bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He eventually embarked on a successful 25- year career with Union Carbide. Known for his diligence, integrity, and leadership, Carey steadily rose through the ranks, ultimately achieving the position of National Sales Manager before his well deserved retirement.
Carey approached life with warmth and compassion, along with a healthy dose of sarcasm, wit, and frugality. "No coupon, not happening." He relished reviewing the weekly ads and pursuing a good deal. He became a master of the grill, renowned among family and friends for his legendary BBQ ribs, a tradition cherished at countless gatherings. He found great joy in traveling , particularly relishing the simple pleasure of sitting on the deck of a cruise ship, watching the ocean waves. An avid bowler, he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition of the lanes for many years. He also volunteered in his community with Meals on Wheels and at St. John's Medical Center.
Above all, Carey was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Judy; his sons, Christopher (Abigail) and Kenneth ( D'Andrea); his sister, Patricia; his nephew, Clarence; and grandchildren Jordan, Justin, Lorraine and Isabel. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him dearly. Carey was preceded in death by his parents, Carey Neal Sr. and Anne Neal, and wife of 19 years, Louria Neal.
Carey Neal Jr. lived a full life marked by service, achievement, cherished hobbies, love of music, and unwavering love for his family. His warmth, his famous ribs, his quiet strength, and his presence on the bowling alley or cruise deck will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
