Allen Pope Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 14, 2023.
FORT WORTH - Allen Pope, Jr., 76, went home to our Heavenly Father Nov. 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. He left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Allen was born Nov. 10, 1946, to Allen and Frances Pope in Fort Myers, Fla. From a young age, Allen harbored a fascination with planes and dreamed of becoming a jet pilot. His love of the water was undeniable. He thrived by the oceans, lakes, and seas and found tranquility in fishing and simply being near the water.
An accountant by trade, Allen spent many years working for the Department of Interior, and several other Federal agencies, before devoting his life to serve as a Pastor.
A man of unwavering faith, he fervently believed in the goodness of the Lord and shared his faith to uplift others; although, if you asked him, he'd tell you his real job was being a devoted husband and a loving father.
In 1991, in Washington DC, Allen met Libretta, the Love of His Life. Being a gentleman through and through, Allen embraced chivalry and treated his wife with the utmost respect. He was very protective and always opened doors for her, walked on the street side of the sidewalk, and drove her wherever she wanted to go. Allen and Libretta raised three sons together, Larry, Alexander, and Emanuel, along with Allen III and Michael Todd (Allen's eldest sons from whom he has grandchildren.)
Allen also has an older dear brother, Freddie Pope.
Allen enjoyed sports. His love for football was unparalleled. He watched every Super Bowl game since the sport's inception, and retained an impressive array of football stats and remembered each team with fondness.
Also a nature enthusiast, Allen found solace in wildlife, a passion cultivated through watching "Mutual of Omaha" with his father. His love extended to animals, fish, and a particular affection for birds.
Music was another facet of his vibrant personality. He had a penchant for romantic tunes. The Temptations song, "My Girl", held a special place in his heart because it echoed the melody of his beautiful relationship with his wife.
Allen was a World War II buff and comprehended the strategic complexities of the war. He was a true patriot. Allen is definitely leaving an enduring impact on this world. Above all else, Allen's legacy is one of love, faith, passion, and a profound understanding of the world.
He was part of an era that we will never see again -- an era where people loved and cared for each other. He will surely be missed. Rest in peace, Allen Pope, Jr.
Services will be held at noon on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, in Greenwood Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
