Allen John Schefers

Allen John Schefers, age 84, of Wayzata, MN passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2026. He had a second stroke on January 9, 2026, which escalated his dementia and caused his death.

Born to Alois and Alvina (Lawler) Schefers on July 22, 1941. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy (Cheeley) Schefers; his daughter, Kiley Schefers; sisters Marcy Kelsey and Bonnie (Doug) Smith; stepdaughter Kim (Ray) Stenglein; step-granddaughter Madeline Stenglein (Austin); many nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends, including his absolute best friend, Sam (Joyce) Marfield.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alois and Alvina Schefers; his brother, Marlin Schefers (18); his son, Troy Allen Schefers (22); his nephew, Aaron Kelsey (42); his brother-in-law, Larry Kelsey; his stepson, John (10); and his step-granddaughter, Annika (16).

After graduating from Kimball High School in 1960, Allen went to work for Imperial Developers running heavy equipment working day and night while taking night courses in anything related to construction. Allen was drafted into the Army in 1966 at age 27 because of his expertise with heavy equipment, and he served in Vietnam.

In July of 1967 Allen met the love of his life, Judy (Cheeley) and married her on September 30 just 3 months later that year. They were happily married for 58 years.

In 1977, Allen and Judy purchased Imperial Developers and began a tremendously successful career in the construction industry. Their Companies also included Imperial Leasing, Ideal Trucking, I.D.

Development and Grand Equipment. They worked tirelessly to build jobs in the Twin Cities such as Twin Towers on 394 & 494 which included a 22-acre lake, the old NW Airlines Site, they sent equipment to help with the Exon Valdez Oil Spill, and the Water and Sewer at the Mall of America. He always said, "when at the Mall of America flush and think of me!" Allen received a nomination for Businessman of the Year in 1981. He fully retired in 2012, but his life did not slow down... throughout his life Allen loved to travel and went all over the world. To London on the Concord, Switzerland, Scottland, Amsterdam, France, US Virgin Islands, just to name a few. His most cherished trips were on the motorcycle from MN to Alaska and back and to Banff and Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies with Judy and his exciting adventures with his best friend to Las Vegas over fifty times.

Allen love spending time with his family and friends, especially when it was time for "the Toast" or to sing the Jägermeister song. He loved meeting new people and always said "I've never met a stranger." He loved living on Lake Minnetonka in the home he designed and built with Judy. The Bellagio Lodge Fish House and Boating were some of his favorites. His pond in his yard that he built in memory of his son Troy, the Koi Fish and his beautifully landscaped yard were his pride and joy and is where he spent most of his time in the Summer.

If anyone could say anything about Allen, they would tell you about his amazing sense of humor.

He truly made us laugh...

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11th, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Washburn-McReavy Bloomington Chapel - 2300 W. Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington, MN.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 12th, at 11 a.m. with a visitation 1 hour prior at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church - 2385 Commerce Blvd in Mound, MN. Reception to follow service.

Private family entombment will be held at St. Boniface Cemetery in Cold Spring, MN.
