Allison Beth McEwen of Prairie City went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday Oct. 14th, 2024. Born on May 18th, 1972, Allison spent her final days at home surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
After graduating from Elmwood High School, Allison graduated cum laude from Southern Illinois University with an Agriculture degree in 1994. She moved to Southern California where she worked with dairy cattle before eventually returning to Illinois where she met her husband, Edward McEwen. They were married on April 2nd, 2004.
Although a private person, Allison was strong and independent, and loved her family fiercely. After having two sons of their own, she and Ed felt the call to adopt and added two more boys to their family. Allison spent many years homeschooling her sons and worked hard to give them every opportunity. Allison found joy in baking, working in her garden, loving on the animals around the farm, and tending to her chickens. Her last passion project was opening and operating Cole Street Coffee House in Bushnell. She poured herself into the staff and ministry of it as long as her health allowed, leaving behind the legacy of holding strong to your faith through suffering.
Allisons battle with cancer strengthened not only her faith, but her relationships with those she loved. Her sentimental tenderness shone even more brightly the closer she got to her homegoing. Although deeply missed, comfort is being found knowing we will meet again.
Allison is survived by her beloved husband, Ed; her four children: Wesley (age 17), Jacob (age 16), Luke (age 15), and Cole (age 13) all of Prairie City; her father Charles Courtright of Murphysboro; Her three siblings: Daren (Denise) Courtright of Carbondale, Tyler (Shannon) Courtright of Brimfield, and Colise (Hank) of Bloomington. She is also loved and remembered by her family in Christ at Checkrow Community church.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Thomas and Jacqueline Griffith.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday October 19, 2024 at the Checkrow Community Church with pastor Brett Fisher officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday October 18, 2024 at the Checkrow Community Church. Burial of ashes will be in the Prairie City Cemetery.
