Alma Lanter Blasingame, a beacon of sweetness, warmth and wisdom, passed away on August 6, 2024, at her home in Athens, Georgia surrounded by her family’s love. Alma was born to Boyd and Virgie Lanter on October 5, 1931.
Alma's journey began in Speedwell, Virginia, where she grew up with her four siblings, Cora, Harold, Kathy and Nancy. Her childhood was filled with the simple joys of life on a farm, doing chores and helping care for her younger siblings, which laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. After graduating from Speedwell High School, she left home for Washington, DC. In Washington, Alma met the love of her life James T. Blasingame while working as a stenographer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They celebrated their love by marrying on September 7, 1957. Together while transferring around the country with the FBI, they raised two remarkable children: Rhonda Kay and James Thomas, II, who were Alma's pride and joy.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, James T. Blasingame, parents, Boyd and Virgie Lanter, and her sisters Cora Barron and Katherine Italiano Merther and brother Harold Lanter She is survived by her sister, Nancy Hansard of Braselton, GA; daughter, Rhonda B. McClure, Watkinsville, GA; and her son, James T. Blasingame, II, his wife, Rebecca Ann, Powder Springs, GA; granddaughter, Ellen McClure Horn (Jack and great grandson, Luke James); grandson, Andrew Lee McClure, all of Watkinsville, GA; and granddaughters, Stephanie Wilson (Robert and great grandsons, Finley, Declan and Liam) and Brandee Wilken (Chris and great grandsons, Aidan and Ellison).
The family would like to thank the wonderful employees of Inspire Hospice in Bogart, GA.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST located at 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd., Bogart, GA 30622. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends Friday, August 9th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
