Samuel Frederick McLean of Athens gently departed this world on February 11, 2026, in his home in Watkinsville, Georgia. He was born in Athens, GA on November 15, 1951
A dedicated and cherished individual, Fred beautifully impacted the lives of those around him throughout his career and personal endeavors. Fred proudly owned McLean’s Refinishing Inc., where he applied his skills and passion for restoration work with diligence and determination. He founded McLean's Refinishing in the mid-seventies and shared his artistic talent of restoration with many. A member of the Athens Woodworking Guild, he taught many classes on woodworking and finishing, as well as, hosting seminars on refinishing skills. His commitment to quality and service not only solidified his business's reputation but also earned him trust and respect within the community.
He was an Eagle Scout, Master scuba diver, knife collector/enthusiast, deep sea fisherman and hunted wild game.
A graduate of Athens High School, Fred continued his education by attending Gainesville Junior College and South Georgia College.
His family, the heart of Fred's life, includes his beloved wife, Renee Woodard McLean, and his two sons, Stuart (Beth) McLean and Tavis (Mandy) McLean. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kate, Anna, Molly, and Alice McLean, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel McLean and Jean Watson McLean Gibson, and his sister, Jeannie McLean Allen. Their memories now reside as a quiet comfort for those he has left behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Samuel Frederick McLean on February 14, 2026, at 2:00PM at Grace Fellowship Church. In the hearts of many, Fred will remain a symbol of dedication, love, and family. He leaves a legacy that will be treasured by all whose lives he touched.
