Alma Bauer Levi passed peacefully to her eternal home on April 5, 2025. Alma was born November 24, 1928, in Zeeland, North Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Maria (Walz) Bauer. Alma grew up on the family farm, the sixth of eight brothers and sisters, and attended school in Zeeland. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1947 and attended the State Normal and Industrial College in Ellendale, North Dakota. She then worked as a secretary for the South Dakota Wheat Growers in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and the Grand Forks County Treasurer's office in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Alma married her high school sweetheart, Ivan Keith Levi, in Grand Forks on December 9, 1950. After Ivan received an accounting degree from UND and began serving in the United States Air Force, the couple lived and began raising their young family in Omaha, Nebraska, and Minot, North Dakota. Alma and Ivan returned to Grand Forks, where Ivan worked on a master's degree. The family then moved to Fargo in 1956. When Ivan later started his own accounting and tax service, Alma served many years as the secretary and bookkeeper for the business.
Alma was steadfast in her faith and loved her family deeply. Her faith and family were the center of her life and she was the glue that kept us all connected through the years. She was always there for her children and grandchildren. Her face would light up for whoever came to visit and we'll always remember her "Big Grandma Bear Hugs," and our long "Levi goodbyes."
Alma was proud of her children and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Alma lived her Christian faith by showering us every day with her unconditional love. She enjoyed gathering with family, playing cards and Scrabble with family and friends, visiting over coffee with neighbors, riding bicycle with Ivan, and camping in our camper with family. Alma loved taking photographs to capture the moments and memories of our lives as a family. She kept photo albums that chronicled the many years of events and visits. She was an avid walker – taking a meditative walk almost every day as long as she was able. We all loved her cooking, especially her delicious chocolate cookies and butterhorns, which she always brought to family gatherings.
Alma was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Fargo for over sixty-five years. She made sure her children were involved in Sunday and bible school and attended church every Sunday. She served on numerous church committees and especially enjoyed delivering greeting cards for shut-in members of the congregation.
Left to cherish Alma's memory are her children, Gary Levi, Fargo, Delilah Meyer, Crookston, MN, Cynthia (Bruce) Stein, Hankinson, ND, Bruce (Kathy) Levi, Park Rapids, MN, and Jeffrey (Karen) Levi, Boulder, CO; her brother, Robert Bauer, Blaine, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Alma was blessed with twelve grandchildren, Joel Levi, Suzanne (Dave) Marohl, Andrew (Clarissa) Levi, Paul Meyer, Amber (Chase) Stein, Grant Levi, Anne (Justin) Schmalenberg, Emily (Saul) Helgeson, Megan Stein, Kelli Stein, Garrett Stein, and Sarah (Rory Kerwin) Levi; and twelve great grandchildren, Ella, Elliot, Leia, Giselle; Ayrion, Hayden, Tori; Sienna, Connor, Logan, Sage and Hudson.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, in 1999; her parents; her brothers and their spouses, Henry, Armand (Elaine) and Wilfred (Esther) Bauer; her sisters and their spouses, Irma (Carl) Opstad, Laura (Ben) Jund and Irene (Julius) Boschee; her sister-in-law, Janet Bauer; her son-in-law, Norman Meyer; and most recently her grandson, Paul Meyer.
We will always carry Alma's love and memory in our hearts.
A Celebration of Alma's Life will be held at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home on Friday, April 11 at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning one hour before the service. Alma's favorite color was blue; please feel free to wear something blue to the service if you wish.
