Alois A. Chmela, a distinguished professor at Queensboro Community College, passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on May 6, 1937, in Malacky, Slovakia, Alois was a man of remarkable intellect and a passion for education that inspired countless students throughout his career.

Alois was highly educated, holding dual master’s degrees from an Ivy League institution. His rigorous academic background equipped him with the tools to engage in discussions across an impressive array of subjects, reflecting his deeply studious nature. Alois loved to read, immersing himself in literature that enriched his understanding of the world around him. This intellectual curiosity extended beyond academics; he was also a world traveler who embraced the diversity and richness of cultures across the globe.

In addition to his teaching legacy, Alois nephew is in the process of publishing a book entitled "Lunches with Alois," which is expected to provide insights into his life experiences, thoughts, and the conversations he cherished with friends and family.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Kosky, and his two nephews: Frank Mackay, Gordon Mackay, and nieces Joanne Hilly, Karen Kosky-Baez and Kristin Mackay. Alois was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Dorothy, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life.
