It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Aloysius "Al" Joseph Goblirsch, age 94, on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Saint Therese Senior Living of New Hope, MN.
Preceded in death by his parents Katherine (Moldan) and Peter Goblirsch; siblings Martin Goblirsch (Deloris), Cecelia Goblirsch, Gertrude Grunig (Leonard), Father Leo Goblirsch, Sister Maria Goretti Goblirsch, and Arlene Schroepfer (Gerald).
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Loretta (Ignaszewski); siblings Margaret Schwartz (Bud), Cletus Goblirsch (Delores), and Catherine Hillesheim (Lester); three children, Terrence Goblirsch (Elisabeth Trach), Trudy Reierson, and Joseph Goblirsch (fiancée, Kim Meslow); eight grandchildren, Sondra Reierson (Matt Thompson), Nick Goblirsch, Amie Goblirsch (significant other, Mike Mason), Hannah Goblirsch, Jade Knox (Caleb), Tyler Goblirsch (Adriana), Maddie Jo Goblirsch (fiancée, Michelle Powers), and Hallie Reierson; and one great-grandson, Theodore Goblirsch.
One of ten children, Al was born on February 4, 1930 in the family home in Sleepy Eye, MN. After attending a one-room country school through 8th grade, Al spent five years at Crosier Minor Seminary, where he obtained his high school degree along with substantial college credits. In May, 1953, Al enlisted in the United States Navy and completed his basic training at the U.S. Naval Training Center Great Lakes, IL. He served aboard a cruiser, touring both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Al visited ports on six continents, sailed through a typhoon, and experienced a collision between ships during training exercises. He was honorably discharged in September 1957.
Al began working at Grain Belt Brewery in 1957 and continued there until the brewery closed in 1976. He married Loretta in Minneapolis. They bought a 40 acre plot of land in Plymouth on Vicksburg Lane and resided there for 51 years, raising three children. Al bred Beefalo cattle, made hay, and nurtured his daughter's passion for horses. He started with a single Shetland pony and later expanded into a large horse boarding operation. In 2009 the land was sold for a development now known as "Spring Meadows".
Making a career change in his 40's, Al trained to be a machinist at Hennepin Vo-Tech. He later worked sorting mail for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1992. Al was a very hard-working man whose strong work ethic served as an excellent role model for his family. Family was Al's pride and joy – family dinners and holidays together were something Al always looked forward to. In addition to his love of family and his circle of close friends, religion played an important part in Al's life. He worked many hours to elect Pro-Life candidates and advocate for Catholic schools.
