Aloysius "Al" M. Sternweis, 93, Marshfield, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Wells Nature View.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield with visitation from 9:30 am until service time. Rev. Douglas Robertson will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 54 - Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Al was born on July 9, 1932 in Spencer to George and Mary (Klein) Sternweis. He grew up on the home farm on the Wood County, Marathon line. He was educated at Cameron Country School until 5th grade. He then continued his education at Sacred Heart School in Marshfield. In 9th grade he spent one year at St. Laurence Seminary. The next three years he went to Marshfield Senior High School, graduating in 1951.
Al married Arlene Tremelling on July 28, 1953 at Our Lady of Peace Church. She passed away on February 25, 2024.
He was a farm helper the first summer, then he went to work nights for Swift & Co. He worked there until he was hired at Hub City Foods in February 1954. He worked nights loading trucks with groceries, later a semi driver and promoted to warehouse superintendent. He worked at Hub City which was sold to Fleming Foods for 42 plus years - retiring in 1995.
Al was a Korean War era veteran serving from July 1954 to June 1956 with most of his service time spent in Darmstadt, Germany, working in the motor pool, working on trucks and other equipment for the U.S. Army.
Over the years Al enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, and just spending time with the family when they had projects to do. He also enjoyed reading and was a very good cook.
He is survived by children, Michael Sternweis of Appleton, Dennis Sternweis of Marshfield, Barbara Weiland of Wisconsin Rapids, and Douglas (Chimene) Sternweis of Cabot, AR, daughter in law, Jayne Mueller-Sternweis of Marshfield, 7 grandchildren, Sue (Jason) Brown, Scott (Melissa) Sternweis, Eric (Tanya) Weiland, Dakota Sternweis, Mason Sternweis, Christina (Travis) Shayla's, Lindsey (Dave) Moore, and 6 great grandchildren, Marshall, Lenore, Meera, Reed, Dillon, Carter, and Lennox.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, parents, George and Mary, son, Jerome Sternweis, daughter in law, Sandra Sternweis, son in law, Dan Weiland, sisters, Andrea Sternweis, Lucille Schmidt, Norma (Warren) Justman, and brothers, Joseph A, George, Donald, and Hubert.
The family would like to thank Wells Nature View and St. Croix Hospice for their wonderful care of Al.
