Alphonso Henry Dail

Alphonso Henry "Jody" Dail, 86, of 940 County Line Road, Tyner, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Dail was born in Perquimans County on April 16, 1939, and was the son of the late Alphonso Henry Dail Sr. and Callie Lilly Dail. He was a farmer, known mostly for his watermelons and cantaloupes. Jody enjoyed hunting deer and was a member of Bear Swamp Hunt Club and Chappell Hill Hunt Club.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Joyce Lane Dail; a son, T.A. Dail and his wife, Lois; three grandchildren, Lee Dail and his wife, Faith, Brandee Phelps and her husband, Aaron, and Jason Dail; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Phelps, Hayden Dail, Owen Dail, and Easton Dail; two sisters, Mary Ann Dail Carter and Caroline Dail Trueblood; two brothers, Carlton Dail and his wife, Avis, and Gene Dail and his wife, Karen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hardy Dail.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16th at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dail Family Cemetery 247 Hunters Fork Road, Tyner.
