To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven; a time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and time to pluck up that which is planted.

Ecclesiastes 3:12

A Time to be Born

Mr. Alphonso Hyman was affectionately known as “Al”, “Daddy”, “Da”, “Pappy”, “Pap”, and “Uncle Al”. He was the son of the late Latson Edward “L.E.” Hyman and Willie Mae Cain Hyman, and he was born on April 6, 1934 in Florence County.

A Time for Every Purpose Under the Sun

Mr. Hyman was educated in the public schools of Florence County and graduated from the historical Wilson High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer, and then returned to his family legacy --- Hyman Farms. Mr. Hyman found his endless love in the former Ms. Lizzie Thomas, and together, their two hearts beat as one. To this union two beautiful children were born. At an early age, Mr. Hyman joined Mill Branch AME Church. He served on the trustee board and the usher board.
Mr. Hyman was a lifetime member of Mill Branch Masonic Lodge #231 and a former member of Bejilah Temple #163.

A Time to Laugh

Mr. Hyman was a respected community member and entrepreneur. As the second-generation owner of L.E. Hyman & Sons, Mr. Hyman was a neighborhood fixture who provided many people with a place to laugh, fellowship, and enjoy a morning cup of coffee. He provided guidance and mentored many men in his community. He had a zest for life that included gardening and spending time with his family and friends.

A Time to Die

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” Mr. Hyman peacefully entered the mansion that God prepared for him on Friday morning at his home.

A Time to Mourn

Mr. Hyman was welcomed into eternity by his wife, Lizzie Hyman; his sister, Pearlean (Carl, Sr.) McAllister; and brother, Raynard Wilson Hyman.

Left to cherish precious memories and sharing his legacy of love are: his son, Douglas Alphonso (Sandy) Hyman; his daughter, Glenda Hyman; his eldest grandson raised in the home, Douglas “Doug” Alphonso (Shiquita) Hyman, II; six additional grandchildren, Aubre’, Douglas, Emily-Grace, Lizzie, Latson, and Christopher Alphonso; four great-grandchildren, Jayden, Emerie, Zola, and Channon; two sisters, Madlean Parrish and Gwendolyn Hyman-Dixon; a special son-in-law, Eugene Singletary; one brother-in-law, Tommy Thomas; one sister-in-law, Grace (Eugene) Small; nieces, Terry, Valerie, Andrena, Sabrina, Clarissa, Tia, and Tara; nephews: King, LaMont, and Ashley; godsons, Alphonso McWhite and Shelton Timmons; a special friend, Alma Lee Davis; and a host of relatives, cousins, and friends.
