Alphonso Weaver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harwood Home for Funerals and Cremation Services on Jul. 28, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Alphonso Ray Weaver, 68, of Black Mountain, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 21, 2025.

Ray was born on April 8, 1957, in Buncombe County to the late David Johnson Mackey and Helen Stepp Weaver.

Ray was truly a man of the people. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. A social butterfly, he could light up any room the moment he walked in.

An exceptional athlete in his high school years, Ray held a deep appreciation for the coaches and teammates who helped shape his love for sports. He found great joy in reconnecting with childhood friends and reminiscing about memories from the field.

Ray had a passion for old-school music and found peace in life's simple pleasures-watching college football, NFL games, and boxing matches, or spending quiet moments fishing.

His warmth, laughter, and genuine spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved son, Terran Reid of Greenville, SC; his loving siblings, Renee Weaver and Jeffrey Weaver; and he is now reunited in peace with his late brother, Michael Weaver. He is also survived by his devoted aunt, Allavertta Kirkland; nephews, Yon Weaver (Erica) and David Weaver (Sabrina); great-nephews, Kendrick, Jeremiah, and Malakai Weaver; great-niece, Nylah Weaver; great-great-nephew, Kyler Weaver; children by love, Dustin Lowery and Shantia Mann; along with a host of extended family and dear friends who loved him dearly.

Ray will lie in state on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 11:00am to 4:00pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Harwood Home for Funerals. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.

May we find comfort in knowing that his light lives on in each of us whose lives he touched.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to those who helped Ray in his everyday life.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be nephews, cousins, and close friends.
