Mr. Alton Chavis, aged 82, of Lumberton, North Carolina departed this life peacefully on February 5, 2026 to enter a new life with God. He was born in Robeson County on December 25, 1943 to the late Johnny and Paulene Chavis. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years Dorothy C. Chavis and three brothers, J.W. Chavis, Larry Dean Chavis and Lawrence Chavis.

Mr. Alton Chavis was an active member of Saddletree Church of God. He served on the Pastoral Council for many years. He taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He contributed to the church through his carpentry experience, while working and serving with the building committee. He also enjoyed assisting in the kitchen along with his brothers and sisters in the church. Mr. Alton volunteered his services whole heartedly and was eager to help in any way possible to advance the Kingdom of God. He was also the owner/operator of Backswamp Custom Cabinets of Rowland, NC. He also retired from LOF Glass Company after 24 years of faithful and dedicated service. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors as he had a love for deer hunting and occasionally deep-sea fishing.

Mr. Alton Chavis' memories will be cherished forever by his wife Annie Grace Chavis; three sons Jerome "Jerry" (Kim) Chavis, Rev. Josh (Tonya) Chavis, Evg. Matthew Chavis (Tammy); three daughters Deb Chavis, Tammy Graham (Ernest) and Lydia Chavis (Johnnie); two brothers, Dwight (Anita) Chavis and Ricky (Sandra) Chavis; two sisters, Brenda Burns and Geraline Lowery; nine grandchildren, Adriana, Silas (Raenah), Aubrey (Macey), Elizabeth, Madison, Nikki, Kinsey, Paul and Faith; six great-grandchildren, Ariel, Chloe, Khloe-Faith, Seth, Aryya, Matthias and a great-granddaughter on the way; four stepchildren, Clayton Jr., Laura, Charlene, Bertha and a host of relatives, friends, and brothers/sisters in Christ.
