Alton J. "Bub" Phillips

Alton J. (Bub) Phillips, 84, of Jamestown passed away peacefully on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) in Warren Manor Nursing Home surrounded by his loved ones.

A lifelong area resident he was born October 9, 1941 in Jamestown, the son of the late Lincoln and Myrtle Gourley Phillips.

Bub was a graduate of Jamestown High School and Jamestown Community College. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Jamestown Fire Department for 34 years. Upon his retirement, he served as Assistant Fire Chief. After his retirement, Bub was employed by the Prendergast Library as one of their bookmobile/delivery drivers.

Bub was a member of the Morton Club having served as president, Chautauqua Lake Region Antique Automobile Club of America where he served as secretary and assisted the club each year with their annual flea market and car shows. He will also be remembered as a SAAB automobile enthusiast who spent many hours in his shop helping friends and family with their car repairs. Bub was also a regular at Phil 'N Cindy's Lunch where you would find him most mornings enjoying breakfast. There was nothing more important to Bub than his family, and he never missed reunions, gatherings, and celebrations with his relatives. Bub looked forward every year to Memorial Day weekend when his extended family would travel to town from assorted states to spend time together. He was a beloved brother, uncle, father, and grampa who adored his daughters and grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters Leslie Phillips of Brookville, PA, Shelly Phillips of Jamestown; three grandchildren: Abigail Henry, Maddox Henry, Ty Henry; two sisters: Alice Certo of Jamestown and Eleanor Mecklenburg of Florida.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carol S. Vincent Phillips whom he married September 21, 1963, who died December 31, 2020; two sisters: Mary Phillips and LeaEtta Haight; his caregiver, Shawn Watson.

The funeral will be at 4 PM, Sunday, in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday in the funeral home.
