Alva Theodore Hinton, Jr., age 87, of Cottondale, Ala., passed away July 26, 2025, at his residence. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Magnolia Chapel North with Bro. John Wiggins officiating. Private burial in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Magnolia Chapel North.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva T. Hinton, Sr., and Helen E. Hinton; and brothers, Paul Jackson Hinton, John Lawrence Hinton, Charles Thomas Hinton, James Donald Hinton, and Richard Lando Hinton.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hinton; children, Rhonda Hinton Madison (Stan), Teri Hinton, and Loria Hubbard (Frank); brother, Ronald Garvis Hinton; and grandchildren, Shane Donovan Stokes, and Brandon Hubbard.
Alva Theodore Hinton, Jr. was born October 5, 1937, to Alva Theodore Hinton, Sr., and Helen Elizabeth Hudgins Hinton. He was the eldest of seven brothers. He graduated from the Tuscaloosa High School Class of 1956. Alva Theodore Hinton, Jr. was known by the name Buddy amongst his friends, family, and coworkers. He worked over 35 years at GM&O, ICG & Norfolk Southern Railroad as a brakeman and switchman. He followed in the railroad business as his dad was a train engineer. Mr. Hinton loved his family and friends. He also loved all his little canine pets, most of all his rat terrier named Molly. He had a passion for gardening every year and he always shared his harvests with others. He loved to hunt and fish when he could as a hobby.
Pallbearers will be Jason Hinton, Josh Hinton, Charles "Chuck" Hinton, and Brandon Hubbard.
