Funeral services for Mr. Alvin K. Jones, 81, of Toone, will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 2, 2025, in the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Toone. Visitation for Mr. Jones will be Wednesday, January 1, 2025 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm and again on Thursday from 11:00 am until service time. He departed this life Friday morning, December 27th, at his home.
A native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, he was one of ten children born to Carl Alvin and Thelma Louise Hurst Jones. He was united in marriage to the former Nell Marie Young on January 3, 1964 and together they enjoyed almost 61 years of matrimony. He served his country in the US Army from 1960-62 and, also, as a Madison County Sheriff's Deputy from 1990-2010. Mr. Jones began his career in law enforcement in Hardeman County where he served as deputy under Sheriffs Frost and Phillips in the early 1970's. A Baptist in belief, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
He leaves his wife, Nell, of Toone; daughter, Celena Hicks of Covington; three sons, Kenneth Jones of Toone, Tim Jones (Angela) of Bolivar and, Anthony Jones (Brandy) of Jackson; two sisters, Phyllis Sinis and Effie Hall, both of McKenzie; seven grandchildren, Anna, Zachary, Jacob and Cassie Jones, Timothy and Megan McCord and, Kaitlyn Hughes; and seven great-grandchildren, Roxie Jones, Ava Jones, Presley McCord, Danielle Smith, Kayleigh McMullen, Novalee McCord and Bellamy Duncan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and 5 brothers.
Memorials may be sent to Legacy Hospice of the South, 124 West Court Avenue, Selmer, TN 38375.
