He was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Herbert and Geraldine Patterson Messer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Alvin Eugene Messer Jr., brothers, Randall Messer, Charles Messer and sister, Sue Taylor.
He was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Army after 21 years of Service.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Jordan Messer; sons, Eric Messer, Kyger Hill; daughters, Galena Hill, and Yulie Jordan. He has 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Townson-Smith Chapel. The Reverend Daniel Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Davis Cemetery where Flag Presentation and Taps will be conducted by the NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 till 1:00 pm Friday at the chapel prior to the service.
