Danny Messer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service on Jul. 21, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Danny Carol Messer, 74, went to his eternal home on July 18, 2025. Born on June 13, 1951, he was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Lester and Ruby Messer.
Danny was a man known for his strong work ethic, deep love for his family, and unwavering faith in God. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life-fishing, hunting, and striking up conversations with anyone he met. With a kind and gentle soul, he treated everyone with love and compassion, regardless of their background or beliefs. Danny was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His greatest joys were his family-especially his grandchildren-and sharing his love for gospel music.
Danny retired from the Department of Corrections after 31 and a half years of dedicated service. Even in retirement, his commitment to his community continued as he went on to work part-time for the Haywood County Sheriff's Department.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Carolyn Ewart Messer; his son, Travis "Tater" Messer; sister, Amanda Butler (Bryan); brothers, Benny Messer (Keva) and Kenny Messer (Melanie); grandsons, Caden and Dawson Butler; granddaughter, Bethany Buchanan; and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Jonathan Valley Baptist Church (formerly known as Rock Hill School), with Pastor Billy Ferguson and Pastor Larry Bryson officiating.
Memorials may be made to Smoky Mountain Cremations & Funeral Service to help assist with final expenses.
Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service of Maggie Valley is caring for the family and the online register is available at www.smokymountaincremations.com.
