Alvin Monette Moak, 89, 0f Bogue Chitto, MS passed away Tuesday July 22, 2025 at his residence. Visitation will be Friday at Shady Grove Baptist Church from 10 AM until services there at 12:00. Mr. Moak was born at home to Henry Warren and Bessie Lou (Brown) Moak on Sweetwater Hill in the Moak's Creek Community. His beloved sister Carolyn May (James dec.) and confidant in all things brother, Landal (Brenda Sue Smith) survive him. Monette's sister Patsy Hall (Jake) and brother, Carlie (June Nuttall) pre-deceased him along with a son-in-law Timothy Sasser. Alvin was a life-long member of the family church, Shady Grove. A proud 1955 graduate of Johnston Station School he maintained friendships with his fellow graduating classmates. Monette worked almost his entire life in the 'oilfield' industry on land drilling rigs and in the Gulf of Mexico. He retired as Vice-President of American Operations for Maersk Drilling Corporation. In that and other leadership roles his greatest joy was giving work opportunities to neighbors and friends in Southwest MS. He married Peggie Lois (Nixon) in 1957 and together they raised their family in a house his daddy built on a farm in Moak's Creek. Their children, former Rep. Robert 'Bobby' Moak (Gerre Cumbaa), and favored daughters Kitty Lorraine Sasser-Jones (Jeffrey), and Betti Lois Hart (Kevin) all survive him. The joy of adult children, however, was summarily eclipsed with the arrival of grandchildren, Ashley Gray (Coach Thomas), Hali Reed (Coach Jake), Drew Moak (Taylor Coombs), Dr. William Sykes Moak (Dr. Courtney Gagliano), and the twins Kaleb and Kelby Hart were found to be willing participants in his hunting, fishing, sports, gardening, 'corn shelling day' and sugarcane syrup cooking endeavors. He had the same plans, we are sure, to continue manipulating the next generation of great grands, Charlotte Gray, Martha & Warren Moak, Rhodes Moak, Timothy 'Pistol" Reed and the anticipated newest Reed soon to join the group. Having family 'roots' in the land before Mississippi acquired statehood, and cousins almost too numerous to count, Monette was careful to maintain ties with all of them. He and his brothers could frequently be found making the Monday morning coffee shop rounds. A good fishing trip, fish fry, deer club hunt, hog-killing and family reunions kept them all close. He looked forward to spending time with his extended family and friends. The Moak Family humbly appreciates the concern, calls, prayers, support, food, cards, visits and every other form of respect and condolence shown to us during this season of our lives. It is all appreciated and not forgotten! The Shady Grove Church Family and surrounding churches that have reached out not only to us, but every family in our community that suffers loss, is an unbreakable bond binding us all together. It makes the journey easier, and you are in our prayers and have our un-ending support. Care-giving is a ministry unto itself. We thank and appreciate those that have given us the professional support that we really did need.
