Alvin Otis Thomas, a beloved partner, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend, and pillar of his community, passed away on September 19, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born on June 5, 1944, in southern Arkansas, Alvin drew from his upbringing the values of compassion, integrity, and neighborly care that became the foundation of his life and legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Lucille Thomas, as well as his brothers, Charles, Curtis, Leamon, Don, and Travis-each of whom remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Alvin was a devoted partner to Alice Hackney and a proud, loving father to his children: Fred, Kay, Shelby, and Ashytin. He embraced with great joy his daughters-in-love, Jamie and Shavonnee, who became part of the family through his sons, Fred and Ashytin. Alvin was a cherished grandfather to Brooke, Eryn, Cameron, and Nia, and a proud great-grandfather to Evan and Julian. Additionally, his many nieces, nephews, and their spouses will remember him with deep affection. Notably, Alvin shared a uniquely close bond with his cousins, Roger Thomas and Evelyn Faye Lovett, whom he adored as if they were his siblings.

After graduating from high school, Alvin honorably served his country in the United States Army. He later built a long and steady career as a skilled millwright at Georgia Pacific (GP). Following retirement from GP, he remained active in service to others, working as a transport driver for the Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC), and later as a bus driver for the Strong-Huttig School District. No matter the role, Alvin was known for his strong work ethic, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Alvin's faith was central to his life. A devoted member and trustee of Batts Chapel Baptist Church, he served with humility and heart, always striving to live out his beliefs in action. He also touched countless lives through his involvement with the Arkansas Education Association (AEA) and other community organizations, where his leadership, wisdom, and good character left a lasting mark.

Outside of his commitments, Alvin loved life's simple joys. Whether firing up the fish cooker or talking trash on the domino table at a family cookout, showing off smooth dance moves to his favorite music (if you know, you know), dropping a hook in the local creek, cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks, or simply spending time with those he loved, he had a gift for bringing people together. Alvin will be remembered for his strength, generous spirit, and the laughter and joy he carried into every room.
