David Thomas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Inc. - Morehead on Sep. 30, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

David Neal Thomas, beloved brother, friend, father, and husband, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Canada while traveling for work. He was 53 years old.

Born January 17, 1972, in Irvine, Kentucky, David was the son of the late Arvada (Maloney) Thomas and Billy Thomas. He was one of seven children. Surviving siblings include Billy Thomas Jr. (Pam), Ida "Penny" Painter (Robbie), Jacqueline Lance (Shannon), and Tammy Evans (Larry). He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Thomas (Crystal surviving) and James Thomas (Connie surviving).

After graduating from high school, David served in the United States Navy. He went on to study engineering at Western Kentucky University and later worked in Western Kentucky public schools before joining Sekisui in Winchester, where he dedicated the past 14 years of his career.

David's life was transformed when he met Rebecca Lytle on October 14, 2012. They married on March 28, 2014, and together built a loving family. He became a devoted stepfather to Avery, now 15, and a proud father to David (11), Danni (9), and Adaline (5). His greatest joy was found in his role as husband and father, and he loved his family with his whole heart.

A man of strong faith, David's love for God guided every step of his life. He cherished time with family and friends, always expressing the importance of being present with them. He had a zest for travel and adventure, enjoyed playing dominoes, was a spirited pickleball competitor, and faithfully cheered on his football teams every Sunday-often giving coaches some loud "advice" from his living room.

To know David was a blessing. He was the kind of person who was only ever a phone call away, always ready to help or share a laugh. His love, generosity, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, at Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church, 846 Grassy Lick Road, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 6 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Burch officiating.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Winchester Cemetery, 625 W Lexington Avenue, Winchester, KY 4039 with Pastor Daniel Burch officiating.

Pallbearers will be David Scott Thomas, Avery Lytle, Blake Thomas, Brandon Thomas, Ben Thomas, Aaron Pelfrey, and Mike Sparks.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested by the family to Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 725, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353.

All arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
