Griffin Mortuary Funeral Home & Chapel - LubbockAlvin Young, 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11 am at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Slaton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Alvin Young was born to Alvin and Nell Young . Alvin Young was a member of New Generation Community Church and was a Deacon for approximately 30 years and previously a member of Freewill Missionary Baptist Church, both churches under the leadership of Pastor Jimmy Doss.
Alvin Young was a hardworking man and a man who lived his life with quiet strength, dedication, and a heart full of love for people. Alvin was born with a strong work ethic and willingness to help anyone in need, Alvin spent his years serving his community through various jobs and acts of service. He participated in building Freewill Missionary Baptist church Sanctuary. For both churches he kept up with the maintenance jobs.
Alvin loved to eat the First Lady’s flapjacks as he called and her biscuits and gravy. Lastly, over the course of his life, Alvin worked faithfully in several positions, including employment of Posey Gin, where he was known for his dependability and steady hand. He held many different jobs throughout the years, never hesitating to take on tasks that needed to be done. Alvin took great pride in his work cutting and caring for yards throughout the community, bringing beauty, and care to the home of many.
Alvin is preceded in death by his wife Teresa Young, his mother Nell Young, his father Alvin Young, his brothers Alton, Chares, and John, his sisters Catherine, Linda, and Marynell.
Alvin leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sisters Avilina Johnson, June Young, and Angela Young, his brother Larry Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
