Obituary of Aly Sandoval Hurtado
Aly Sandoval Hurtado of Chehalis, Washington, passed away at Providence Hospital in Centralia, Washington, on Thursday October 5, 2023, with his son at his side. Aly was born October 30, 1932, in San Pedro, California. He grew up in the San Pedro and the Los Angeles areas. Aly learned Spanish as his native language and later learned English. His first job was working in the agriculture fields, harvesting fruit. He had a few other jobs in the area until going to work at Desoto, a lighting fixture manufacturer where he fabricated and assembled lighting fixtures. It was here that he met his wife, Carol, who worked as an assistant to the company's owner. He married Carol May Boucher in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1966. They were blessed with a son, Alan B. Hurtado a year later.
Aly went to a trade school, learning electronics repair and then worked for RCA in Los Angeles. The family relocated to Washington in 1972, where he started Ethel TV Service in a two-car garage in Ethel, Washington, on the dairy farm of Carol's brother, Bruce Boucher. This was quite a change for Aly after growing up in the warm and dry areas of Southern California. At first, it was too cold and too rainy, but he toughed it out. He had the TV repair business on the farm until Bruce sold the property in 1978; they moved their home and business to Chehalis where they have lived ever since.
Aly enjoyed growing roses and sharing his knowledge with others, as well as helping Carol with her many arts and craft projects. In 1985, he and Alan began selling the large ten-to-twelve-foot satellite dishes while Aly continued to repair electronics. As the business was growing, he and his son had an opportunity to take over the service and satellite dish sales For David's TV and Appliance in 1989. He continued growing the service department and had to hire additional technicians along the way. Satellite dishes shrunk to 18 inches during this time while they continued to sell and service them. In 2003, David's TV and Appliance moved up the street to a larger location where Aly, Alan and George McClendon became co-owners and added furniture. A few years later, they had the opportunity to buy and move into the old McMahon's furniture facility up the street, almost tripling the size of the business and employing up to 20 people, including his wife, Carol, as the service coordinator. After the flood of 2007, Aly started thinking about retirement, which he did in 2009. Aly remained active, helping his son's business, Northwest Party Outlet and later Party Connexion. He was always willing to give a hand as needed. Aly was greatly loved by many and will be missed by many.
Aly will be remembered for the many hours he spent at Church, praying for and helping anyone in need, as well as his unfailing love for his family and friends, his patience and strength, his service to others, and his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Aly was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; his sister, Aurora Witham; his brother, Larry Hurtado; and his parents, Delores and Antonio Hurtado, and their other children.
Aly is survived by his son, Alan B. Hurtado of Centralia, as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Open Bible Church, 902 Alder St., Centralia WA 98531.
