Alyce “June” Garner, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 95.
June was born on May 18, 1930, in Kentwood, Louisiana, to Emory H. Goit and Lola Rhymes Goit. She earned her nursing degree from Gilfoy School of Nursing and later her master’s in business from Belhaven University. During her career as a registered nurse, June worked for Baptist Hospital and then, as a claims review nurse and supervisor for Blue Cross Blue Shield, in the Division of Medicaid.
June married Joseph Dewitt (Joe D.) Garner in Leflore County, Mississippi, on February 12, 1950, and together they had two children. They were members of Crossgates Baptist Church, and they shared 67 wonderful years together before his passing in 2017.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Lola Goit, sister, Sara Goit Carpenter, and her husband, Joe D. Garner.
Survivors include her two children, Cheryl Garner Saffle (Thomas) and David D. Garner (Tamara); grandchildren, Owen Saffle (Emily), Justin Saffle (Laura), Ryan Saffle (Elizabeth), and Brandon Garner (Shelby); great grandchildren, Landon, Hastings, Ellie, Caroline, Grady, Reaves, and Asher Saffle.
Family Graveside service will be held Friday, October 24th at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Newton Mississippi. There will be a Come & Go Celebration of Life for family and friends at Chateau Pines from 2-4 in the afternoon of the 24th. 124 Morgans Lane, Brandon, MS 39042.
The nightly ceremony in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated in honor of your loved one on the day of your choosing.
