Alyne Bruce, born on January 18, 1937, in
Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully from natural causes on March 8, 2026, at her home in
Greensboro, North Carolina, at the age of 89.
Alyne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by her love for family, her passion for literature, and her commitment to community service. She received her journalism degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, which fueled her lifelong appreciation for English literature. Her professional career included her role as an administrative assistant with Tanger Outlet Center, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism.
Family was always Alyne's top priority, and she cherished every moment spent at family gatherings. She also had a great love for traveling, which allowed her to explore new places and cultures, enriching her life and those around her.
Alyne was an active member of the Civitan Club in both Greensboro and Wilmington, serving in various capacities locally and internationally. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Fairgrove United Methodist Church in Reidsville, where she sang in the church choir. Upon moving to Wilmington she became a member of Harbor United Methodist Church. There, she found joy and purpose in participating in the church choir and the prayer shawl ministry.
Alyne is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Wendell Becton and Lula Katherine Hicks Becton. She is survived by her loving husband, Garland Bruce, of the home; her children, Debbie Mann of Cleburne, Texas; Katherine Cook and husband Ashby of Greensboro; Greg Brown and wife Sandy of Raleigh; and Dana Poindexter and husband Steve of Greensboro; Brad Bruce and wife, Cyndy of Kernersville. She also leaves behind ten cherished grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her siblings, Dotty Alspaugh and Wendell Becton, Jr.
A celebration of Alyne's life is being planned, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives.
