Alyson Marie McCoy, 46, of Nanticoke, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by family, following a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 10, 1979, in Kingston, she was the daughter of Brian and Jacqueline (Ruckle) Elmy. Alyson leaves behind her soulmate and devoted fiancé, John Deiter, with whom she shared over 10 wonderful years of life and love. She was also the proud mother of one son, Jace Brian.
She was a 1997 graduate of Northwest High School, Shickshinny. Alyson also attended Luzerne County Community College (LCCC), Nanticoke earning her associate's degree in criminal justice. She worked for the state, in the department of corrections, until she retired.
Alyson was a member of the Stillwater Christian Church; she volunteered for CEO delivering meals for homebound people at Thanksgiving and Christmas; and volunteered at Domestic Violence. She also organized golf tournaments, prepared meals for various fund raisers, organized children and veterans' hunts at SCI Dallas through EWA.
She loved cooking, baking and shopping, she also enjoyed warm weather and spending time at the beach. Alyson was a ray of sunshine to all who knew her, her personality could light up a room and she was always there to help someone feel better or smile. Alyson's love for her family, friends, and even those she helped through volunteering was evident in all that she did – whether it was buying a personal gift or delivering homemade meals – she made sure that those around her laughed and felt loved.
Alyson was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather: Allen Ruckle; paternal grandfather: Cleveland Elmy; father-in-law: Raymond Deiter Jr. and brother-in-law: Raymond Deiter III.
In addition to her mother, father and fiancé she is survived by a son: Jace Brian McCoy of Benton; step-children: Jake and Jordyn Deiter of Hunlock Creek; maternal grandmother: Helen Ruckle of Shickshinny; paternal grandmother: Barbara "Babs" Elmy of Nanticoke; Mother-in-law: Jeanne Deiter of Plains; sister: Autumn Whitebread and her husband, Don, of Mifflinville; two nieces that she loved beyond words: Emma and Elysse Whitebread of Mifflinville; and her two fur babies: Frankie and Freddy.
All friends and family are invited to join us as we remember and celebrate the life and love of Alyson starting at 4:00 pm. A celebration of life service will start promptly at 5:11 pm (iykyk) on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Stillwater Christian Church, 39 McMichael St, Stillwater, PA 17878. A meal will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alyson's name can be made to the Valley with a Heart Foundation, 7 Alden Road, Nanticoke, PA 18634.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bauman and her entire staff at Fox Chase Cancer Center Temple Health, Philadelphia for the special care that Alyson received during her time of need.
