Alyssa Joy Peters

December 22nd 1992, Alyssa Joy Peters entered this world and on December 22nd 2025, her 33rd birthday, she left it. Again proving that her mother, Cindy Peters, is always right.

Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 10 am in the St Mary's Cathedral Chapel with Reverend Avitus Siriwa presiding. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery. 

Alyssa Joy was born to John and Cindy Peters both of Amarillo Texas, with some obvious differences from her older siblings, Trey, Shannon, and Libbie. But what became clear right away was that Alyssa was sent to change our lives and perspectives and the hearts of everyone she would meet.

Alyssa had different needs than “normal” people and was lucky enough to attend several schools in the Amarillo area that catered to children with hearing disabilities and other special needs. Alyssa loved school, school buses and routines. She at an early age learned sign language, with the help of her above mentioned wonderful and all-knowing mother, who encouraged Alyssa’s siblings to learn it also as to have a way to communicate with her. There were many memories of attending family sign language classes at the Amarillo Speech and Hearing Center. Alyssa also loved her time at Lamar elementary, Ridgecrest, Bonham, and Hereford High School, where she graduated in 2015. Her time at Hereford High school was especially fun because both of Alyssa‘s parents were teachers there and they enjoyed having her at the same school where they taught. Alyssa took a variety of classes while she was a student at HHS, including PE where she spent most of her time putting the basketballs back on the rack after her classmates threw a basket or in culinary class with Sophie, where she would be in charge of folding towels in the kitchen. And in typical Alyssa fashion would fold one and return it to the drawer, and would repeat the full process instead of folding the entire load and then putting it away. Alyssa had her own way of getting thru life and made sure her way was the only acceptable way.

Alyssa was the baby of 4, and her bright spirit was one that outshone all of her siblings. From summoning aliens with foil wrapped paper plates that she would leave in the front yard, to taping business cards, scraps from magazines, phone books and newspapers to every mirror and window in the house her messes and quirkiness is something we will miss desperately. She also LOVED glue sticks and cutting things, including her hair. However the budding hairstylist was not a traditional artist, and she would most often use sticks of deodorant, chapsticks, and bottles of lotion as a paste instead of a typical glue stick.

What Alyssa loved most was her favorite sister, Libbie LaMay, who is 17 months older and Alyssa’s built in bestie and partner in crime. She was also Libbie's scapegoat on multiple occasions growing up because when things were broken or out of place, it was easier to blame Alyssa than get in trouble because Alyssa never got in trouble with mom and dad. To get back at Libbie she loved to come into her bedroom in the early mornings when they were growing up, and especially loved drawing with sharpie on all the tags of Libbie’s clothes, and she was especially good about doing that on all of Libbie’s favorite clothing items. Together this duo experienced countless beach trips, a visit to DisneyWorld and so many other travels together along with their parents, furthering their bond and friendship. Alyssa’s other siblings are cool and all, but Libbie was her bestie, sorry not sorry Shannon and Trey! I win! Libbie was also credited with dressing up in a Barney inflatable in recent months to raise Alyssa spirits because there is no bigger Barney fan than Alyssa Joy- she was even pursuing learning Barney in Arabic in her spare time via YouTube.

Truthfully her nieces, Madison Paige, Brylee Ann and Reagan Noelle, and Alyssa’s nephews, Preston Jacob, Nicholas Dean, Mason Christopher and Cameron Micheal were Alyssa’s favorite people . She would light up when they would come around- especially when they were all babies. Alyssa loved her babies, she loved helping change diapers, and laughed her head off when she got the chance to hold a baby . Thankfully all of her cousins have also put a lot of babies into the world so there was never a lack of babies for her to marvel at. All of her nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles will greatly miss Alyssa and hold all of the silly memories of her in their hearts.

Alyssa was described most accurately as an angel sent to us for a short time, to help her family acknowledge and appreciate the little things in life and change they way we see the world and through this time now without her physical presence, that is becoming more and more apparent. She did things in a way that confused everyone but made a profound impact because even though she’s gone, we still hide the scissors, buy the box of junior mints, and check the silverware drawer for missing money and credit cards because those little habits will remind us of Alyssa forever and will make us stop and smile when we remember them. We understand the Lord needed his joyful Alyssa angel back, but we all wish we had more time to revel in her silliness and odd tendencies. Like the song goes, we have the joy, joy, joy, down in our hearts, our Alyssa Joy. We will hold her close in our hearts forever and cannot wait to see her again, until then we know she’s dancing in streets of gold, eating all of the Taco Villa bean burritos, Cheetos, and m&ms she could ever want.
