Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home and Crematory on Feb. 5, 2026.
Born January 9, 1935, in Cincinnati Ohio, Aman Zzyzx (Robert Marbury Jr.), 91, of
Bloomington, Indiana passed away in his home February 2, 2026. Cherished and well- respected by many, he too cherished his family and friends, especially in his later years.
Aman is survived by his wife Cathy (Marvel, Guemple) Zzyzx, daughters Kimberly Johnson of Sunrise, FL; Lorin Joy Marbury, Malakoff, TX; and son, Thomas Marbury of North Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Khalilah, Rickey, Deandera, Alexis, Brenden, Alyssa and 6 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death, were Aman's parents Robert Marbury Sr. and Vivian Irene (White) Marbury, sister Judy Marbury Corpening, and his dear "grandma" Bessie White.
Aman grew up in Indianapolis and attended Arsenal Technical High School where he received an award for creating the smallest radio. At age 14, he joined the Navy and went through boot camp at the Naval Training Station in Newport, Rhode Island. He was trained to be a Radioman onboard a Navy Cruiser where he maintained vital communication systems. At 17, he was honorably discharged due to enlisting underage. However, Aman went to work for RDT&E Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake where he developed his mathematical and pneumatic engineering skills which led him to work for NASA. His work at NASA included the Atlas mission and the return of Apollo where he and his team had to literally plan, mathematically, how to get the astronauts back to Earth! He later worked at Korody-Colyer Corp. where he solved a long-believed mathematical impossibility and invented, and patented, the power/positive stroke which is still used in engines today.
Aman lived a full, colorful life of varied experiences and was recognized for his many talents such as inventor, engineer, woodworking craftsman, and professional jazz musician. He played with other professional jazz musicians such as Wes Montgomery and Freddie Hubbard.
He enjoyed vacationing often at Sanibel Island with his wife where they celebrated their wedding anniversary (October 25, 2008). Interestingly, Aman and Cathy shared the same day of birth, January 9th, and enjoyed blowing out candles together on their birthday cake each year. He enjoyed traveling and sitting on the backyard deck overlooking their beautiful garden. He also loved unique plants and miniature bonsai trees and would "greet," by name, his favorite plants every morning.
For several years the couple served as leaders of the Congregation of the One New Man. They've hosted a weekly Bible study group for over a decade and the study will continue, just as Aman would have it because, most important to him was his faith in Jesus/Yeshua, the Messiah.
Aman's faith in his Savior was his passion and he always enjoyed sharing his testimony and intricate details of when he was "born again" on August 10, 1967 in
Los Angeles, CA. That moment spurred him on to receive formal training from the Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism, known as LIFE Church. He later earned a ministerial teaching degree from Wheaton College and later was ordained as a rabbi by the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA). Aman's strong faith, hunger and love for deep Biblical study, and his communication skills led to his many opportunities to "preach the Gospel" as he would say with emphasis. Giving sermons, leading Bible studies and overseeing Passover seders were his great joy. His life was marked by the hand of God in miraculous ways and he would often share, again, the intricate details of his encounters, even angelic interventions.
Lastly, Aman had a wonderful sense of humor and many laughs were shared with those who especially knew him best.
Friends and family are invited to the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old State Rd. for visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm with service immediately following at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 8th, 2026. A short graveside service will be held at Clear Creek Cemetery on Monday, February 9th, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
Memorial donations in Aman's name may be made to Ezra International or to Global Christian Relief.
