Amanda Evelyn Porter, 94, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025 at Twin Rivers Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Calhoun, Kentucky to the late Homer and Grace Norris Gibson.
Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Western High School, part of the Homemakers Club and a long-time member of Center Street Baptist Church where she served on Usher’s Board, with Pastor’s Aide and on the Mother’s Board. In her early years, she was employed at General Electric. She became a nurse’s aide and spent many years at Daviess County Hospital. Mrs. Porter loved spending time with family and enjoyed reading and sewing. She will be dearly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Herman Porter in 1993; a son, Jerome Calvin Porter; a sister, Emma Jean Young; and brothers, Homer and Hubert Gibson.
Mrs. Porter is survived by daughters, Herman Ann Brodie of Evansville and Pamela Porter Sutherland (Robert) of Owensboro; grandchildren, Ronitha Stone, Ambia Johnson, Nathea Porter, Tina Wilson, Robert Sutherland, II (Amber) Jace Sutherland, Kaye- Cheryl Sutherland and Mi’ Randa Payne; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Worthen, Phyllis Akpan, Martha Gibson; a brother, Rev. Richard Gibson (Donna); sister-in-law, Betty Gibson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 23 at Center Street Baptist Church, 715 Center St., Owensboro, where visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 101 Bullitt Ln #208, Louisville, KY 40222.
