With great sorrow, we announce the tragic passing of Mr. Amarnath Thirumalaiyer and Mrs. Sujatha Amarnath.
Amarnath, 67, passed away on December 21st, 2024, after a car accident in Newton County, Mississippi, alongside his wife of 36 years, Sujatha, 56.
Amarnath was born on July 6th, 1957 in Salem, India to Thirumalaiyer Thoddu Subbaiyer and Rajalakshmi Thoddu Thirumalaiyer. After he graduated from PDA College of Engineering Gulbarga with a Master of Engineering in Electronics & Electrical Engineering, he worked there as a professor from 1986 - 1990.
Sujatha was born on September 21st, 1968 in Salem, India to Srinivasan Vinjin Krishnan and Sundari Srinivasan. After she graduated from St. Joseph's Matriculation Higher Secondary School in 1986, she attended Sri Sarada College of Education in Salem, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Home Science.
Amarnath and Sujatha met in 1987 in Salem, India. They were married on February 1st, 1988, in Salem and lived together in Gulbarga until 1990, when they moved to Coimbatore in 1991. Amarnath moved to the U.S. to continue his engineering education; Sujatha and their 3-year-old daughter, Amritha Toppae, joined him in 1995. The three of them first lived in New Jersey until they moved to Virginia, where their son, Sri Hari Abiraaman Amarnath, was born. Soon after, the family settled in Charlotte, NC, in 2002, where they stayed for 19 years. After their grandson, Moksha, was born, they moved to Allen, TX, in 2021, where they remained until their passing, creating beautiful moments and lasting memories with their beloved family and friends.
Amarnath and Sujatha are survived by their parents, Mrs. Rajalakshmi Thirumalaiyer, Mr V.K.Srinivasan, Mrs. Sundari Srinivasan; their siblings; their children Amritha Toppae, Sri Hari Abiraaman Amarnath, son-in-law Mahesh Toppae, and grandson Moksha Toppae.
Amarnath had a deep passion for music, teaching, and his family. He cherished all the little moments he was able to spend with them. His love shone brightest when he sang his favorite songs or told one of his countless stories, whether with words or through photos. Sujatha had a deep devotion to God and shared Amarnath's love of family. She made it her mission to capture every moment of their life together, past and present, so that her children and grandchildren would never forget where they came from and the love she had for them. They spent a lifetime creating a home of love and compassion where everyone fortunate to have met them shared their happiness.
