Stephen James Barger

Stephen James Barger Sr., 77, of Indian Land, SC, passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Stephen was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on August 24, 1947. He was the son of the late Raymond and Theresa Barger. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Stephen Barger Jr. Stephen is survived by the love of his life, Mary Anne Connelly Barger. He also leaves behind his children: Nicole Alfaro (Mike), Ronald Barger (Karsten), and Katie Barger, along with many cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Chris Barger (Kathy), Jeff Barger (Sue), and Sue Belisle (Mike).

Stephen began his career in the automotive industry immediately after high school, launching what would become a lifelong passion. Over more than 60 years, he held nearly every role in the business, ultimately serving as Executive Manager at dealerships across the country. His work earned him numerous awards and honors, but it was the relationships he built-and the people he helped-that mattered most to him. He was a proud and active member of the Rotary Club and The Krewe of the Santiago in Tampa, Florida. Stephen had a deep love for his employees, treating them like family, and took great joy in helping others achieve their goals-often encouraging them to dream even bigger.

Stephen's legacy is one of dedication, generosity, and heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on through the lives he touched.

Services for Stephen will be held beginning with a Visitation on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Heritage Funeral Home in Matthews from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 7095 Waxhaw Hwy, Lancaster, SC 29720 followed by interment at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3709 Forest Lawn Drive , Matthews, NC 28104.
