Amelia Hartbarger Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Amelia "Millie" Louise (Sherman) Hartbarger, 97, of Whitehouse, Ohio passed away on Tuesday August 19, 2025. She was born on December 12, 1927, to the late Harry and Jessie (Bollinger) Sherman.

Millie was the second of four children; she graduated from Whitehouse high school in 1945. She was introduced by a close friend to a gentleman named Glenn Hartbarger, they later married on June 26, 1948. Their wedding took place at the Sherman family home, with people talking about all the fun they had for 3 days. They built a dance floor that later the same lumber was used to build their own home on route 64.

She and Glenn raised 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Growing up in a large family, she knew how to cook in volume. Once her children moved out, creating their own families, they still enjoyed coming back for mom's delightful family dinners.

Millie worked as a secretary for several businesses; she acquired great business skills from Mr. Stautzenberger and other amazing teachers. She enjoyed volunteering for her church and serving on the election board for several decades. One of her most important goals was getting people to vote. Millie was an avid Michigan State Football fan and had a passion for line dancing, this passion led her to dance for several decades. She was a member of Community of Christ Lutheran Church, Whitehouse American Legion Post 384 Auxiliary Member, Eastern Star and Turtle Club. She loved collecting turtles from the United States and other countries for over 54 years.

Millie is survived by her children, Cynthia "Cindy" Hartbarger, Rory (Peggy) Hartbarger of Whitehouse, Ohio, Toby (Wendi) Hartbarger of Waterville, Ohio, grandchildren Renee Schlegel, Gary Jr. (Denise) Hartbarger, Charles (Jennie) Wandtke, Andrew (Laura) Geoff (Shelley) Hartbarger, Megan (Roger) Harper, Amy Henneman, Joshua (Nikki) Hartbarger, Angela Hartbarger, Kelsy and Jake Hartbarger, 18 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn, son Gary, daughter Debbie, brother Marvin (Elsie) Sherman, sisters Dolores Clucky, and Lois (Gene) Gombash.

She possessed a gentle and kind demeanor but showered her family with love.

A visitation for Millie will be held on Sunday August 24, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home located at 6603 Providence St. Whitehouse, Ohio. Her funeral services will be held on Monday August 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Community of Christ Lutheran Church located at 6517 Finzel Rd. Whitehouse, Ohio. Pastor Steve Bond will officiate.
