Amina Z Muhammad, commonly known as Miss Amina or affectionately called NeNe, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025. Born on October 24, 1953, in Cairo, Georgia, Amina was an inspiring figure who touched countless lives throughout her 71 years. Her journey led her from her birthplace in Cairo to Youngstown, Ohio, and finally to Columbus, Ohio, where she spent the majority of her life.
Amina was a loving and loyal woman who devoted much of her life to her community. She was the proud owner of Amina's Kitchen, a beloved local restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, which she ran passionately for 25 years before retiring in 2023. Amina was not just a restaurateur; she was an integral part of the community. Her establishment was more than a place to eat-it was a gathering place for friends and family, a testament to Amina's warm and inviting nature.
Those who knew Amina were charmed by her sense of humor, which was as hearty as the meals she served in her restaurant. She had an irresistible spark that brought laughter and joy wherever she went. Amina was also known for her caring and helpful nature. She had a big heart and always stepped up to lend a hand to anyone in need. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye.
Amina is survived by her sons, Brian and Perry Fortner, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Mae Fortner. Amina's legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched. Her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who remember her.
We encourage all who knew Amina to share memories, upload photos, and leave tributes on her memorial page. These shared moments will help us remember and celebrate the inspiring, loving, loyal, and funny woman that was Amina Z Muhammad.
